Software can be expensive when you don't know how to get results with it. Likewise, it
can be a real bargain regardless of cost if it solves an important problem. We want
to provide skills to our clients so that in the end they will not only know how to
use the product but also know how to solve any problems with it.
Hands-on is an area with a growing demand for concrete lessons and tools that can
be borrowed, adapted if necessary, and applied. On a practical level, this means
strengthening the monitoring and evaluation capabilities of local ICDANet
partners. It also means generating and disseminating knowledge and lessons
learned for the wider benefit of ICDANet's partner organizations in particular,
as well as international community in general.
To promote community networking initiatives in our community throughout Vancouver
Island which is designed to increase local economic and social capital by
encouraging traditional and media literacy, support the transition to an
"Information Economy," increase competitiveness in technology-driven job sectors,
foster entrepreneurship, and support e-government initiatives, among other
initiatives.
Also to empower local organizations and stakeholders to make effective use of
ICTs on their own terms; and catalyze lessons learning and knowledge sharing on
ICTs by local organizations and the international community.
For many schools in developing parts of the world, donations are the only way
of obtaining computers and information technology equipment. When the computers
are given directly to these schools, the schools must then refurbish the equipment
themselves, a complex process that diverts school staff, administrators, and their
resources away from their primary responsibilities as educators. The proliferation
of rapidly advancing computer technology into mainstream society over the past ten
years has created a societal imperative to redirect prematurely "retired" computers
properly. Corporations are also missing an opportunity to effectively give back
to society by donating these "retired" but still useful computers to those who
would benefit from them.
