Africa Summit
Kenya 2009
Communities around the world are taking advantage of the Internet to improve
people's lives. Strategic use of information and communication technologies
(ICTs) is helping create social and economic change in health, education,
culture, and to increase civic engagement. But the benefits are not evenly
distributed. "Digital divides" persist in urban and rural communities.
Summit Objectives:
- To share best practices and lessons learned about community networking
and ICT among delegates.
- To showcase tools and strategies for developing social, economic, and
environmental capital within communities.
- To discuss and advance evaluation frameworks and research methods
for understanding the impact of ICT and community capacity building
initiatives on the development of social, economic, and environmental capital.
- To initiate, develop, or renew partnerships among attendees.
- To increase the level and scope of knowledge about the strategies
and resources available to build social, economic, and environmental
capital, especially in within Africa.
